Focus on LAW

Mike Norton concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate, securities, regulatory and state and local tax.

From 1974 until 1978, he was an attorney with the Tennessee Department of Revenue, and served as General Counsel for that department from 1975 to 1978. While with the Department, Mr. Norton served as staff counsel to the tax study committees of the Tennessee General Assembly, which re-wrote Tennessee’s inheritance and corporate income tax laws. He speaks often at seminars and conferences, most often on topics related to art law issues, state tax issues, buying and selling businesses, and technology matters. In February 2008, Mr. Norton was a speaker at a seminar entitled “The Deaccession of Art Works from Museum Collections: Raising Funds, Donor Restrictions and the Public Interest.  Mr. Norton was also a speaker in March 2008 at the Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts at the Columbia Law School for its program entitled “Breaking Up is Hard to Do:  Issues of Museum Deaccessioning.”  Mr. Norton is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations. He is also a Fellow in the Nashville Bar Foundation.

He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee, magna cum laude, in 1970 and his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1974.
