Charles Bone will Chair Legal Aid Society's 2010 Campaign for Equal Justice
Charles W. Bone has been named Chair of the 2010 Campaign for Equal Justice, the annual fundraising drive of the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands.
Legal Aid Society is a private, not-for-profit organization providing free civil legal assistance to low-income Tennesseans in 48 counties. The Campaign for Equal Justice funds allow the group to pursue justice for clients who have nowhere else to turn, and totaled over $700,000 last year. Donations also support the Nashville Pro Bono Program and pro bono programs in other counties served by Legal Aid. In 2008, nearly 7,000 people and their families were helped by the Legal Aid Society and volunteer attorneys working through local pro bono programs.
Cindy Durham, Director of Development for the Legal Aid Society, describes the Campaign Chair's role as "critical" to the programs and services offered by the organization. She expressed her confidence in Charles' leadership of the initiative, saying "I have known Charles for many years and am excited to be working with him. His experience with fundraising and respect in the legal community will be very helpful during this critical time for our clients and for us."
Charles has already begun to organize his committee in anticipation of the campaign's official kick-off in early March 2010. Large Firm Division Co-Chairs are Tonya Mitchem Grindon of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz and James M. Weaver of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis. Small Firm Division Co-Chairs are Nancy Krider Corley of Corley Henard Lyle Levy & Langford and Allen Woods of The Law Offices of Woods & Woods. Robert E. Cooper, Jr., Attorney General for Tennessee, will chair the Government Attorneys division.
