Tennessean Columnist Features Three Bonelaw Clients in Round-Up of Local Favorites

The Tennessean’s news columnist Gail Kerr wrote an article in today’s paper about local places that residents of Nashville and Middle Tennessee often do not visit. In the round-up, three Bone McAllester Norton clients were highlighted: Fontanel, the former home of country star Barbara Mandrell; the Frist Center for Visual Arts and its “Sensuous Steel” exhibit; and Peg Leg Porker, the barbecue restaurant that recently opened in the Gulch.

Kerr has “a growing head-over heals crush on Peg Leg Porker, both because the barbecue is outstanding and because the owner, Carey Bringle, is so funny.”

Kerr noted that she has visited the Frist and Peg Leg Porker but has yet to make a trip to the Fontanel—something sure to be on the top of her list now that a 140-room Holiday Inn resort has been announced.

Whisky Advocate Features George Dickel Distillery in Summer Issue

Congratulations to Bone McAllester Norton client George Dickel distillery, which received a six-page feature in the summer issue of Whisky Advocate, the nation’s leading whiskey magazine. Author Lew Bryson toured the grounds of the distillery in Cascade Hollow, Tennessee, with master distiller John Lunn. George Dickel has found success using a simple rule: Not changing a thing about the way their liquor is made, which involves old school technology, no automation, eyeball measurements and a hands-on approach. Lunn explains that a factory cannot maintain a hand-crafted approach like they take.

Alcoholic Beverage Group Files Applications for Three Distilleries in Sevier County

Bone McAllester Norton’s Alcoholic Beverage Law group has filed distillery applications for three clients in Sevier County, ahead of a new law governing distilleries that takes effect Monday. According to The Mountain Press, Old Forge Distillery, Dumplin Creek Distillery and Ole Smoky Distillery plan to build in East Tennessee. The new law allows construction of distilleries with on-site sales, but cities and counties have 45 days to stop the construction, saying they don’t want distilleries in their jurisdictions. Because our clients filed their applications this week, they will be allowed to sell their product on-site, even if the local governments tried to opt out of the law.
