Employment and labor attorney James Crumlin recently hosted a discussion for the Tennessee Recruiters Association, “The Do’s and Don’ts of Recruiting: Avoiding Discrimination.” During the virtual discussion, James expanded upon the implicit biases candidates often face and explored ways in which recruiters can work toward racial equality. Amid an ongoing pandemic, shifting work environments and a fluctuating job market, James’ counsel on reducing discrimination while hiring is more essential than ever.
“Certain questions are off limits,” James said. “Properly navigating and avoiding sensitive areas during the interview process will protect recruiters and employers from liability.”
As a well-known Nashville attorney, James concentrates his practice in the areas of labor and employment law, business and corporate law, litigation and dispute resolution, and entertainment and media law. He is also a member of the recently formed civil rights practice at Bone McAllester Norton. His experience includes union and non-union arbitration and all forms of employment discrimination litigation. He also serves as outside general counsel for several small and midsize businesses in the Nashville area.
